Since its creation, the county educational
service center has made significant contributions to a “thorough and
efficient system of common schools throughout the state.”
Over the years, Ohio’s county educational service centers have expanded to meet the needs of other school systems in addition to local districts. Within the limits of their resources, county offices have become educational service centers to assist school districts in providing the best educational opportunities possible for Ohio youth.
This is a trend of the nation’s educational structure, with over two-thirds of the states having a middle level intermediation unit.
The county educational service center strengthens and equalizes services for local needs in the control, administration and organization of public school systems in Ohio.
Local control of education is a critical concern of most citizens. The county educational service center, by equalizing and extending educational opportunities with its programs and services, makes school districts stronger units while retaining policy determination at the local level.
Through expansion of supplemental and consulting programs and services, the county educational service center helps districts provide the best education programs for all children.
