| Name: Larry Gerschutz | Service: Ohio National Guard |
When: 1969-1976 |
| It was a very interesting experience. Everyone should be a part of some branch of service to their country. | ||
| Name: Raymond Gerschutz | Service: Ohio Air National Guard |
When: 1975 to Present |
| The Ohio Air National Guard has treated me very good over the years. It has taken me all over the world, much farther than I had ever dreamed. I joined the Guard to give something back to the country that has been so good to me. Now the guard offers to pay your college tuition if you join. I have been on many deployments with the 180th Fighter Wing to all parts of the world. Since being a member of the 180th we are flying the third different aircraft assigned to the base. They were flying the F-100 when I joined in 1975 and converted into the A-7D Corsair in 1979 - 1980. In 1992 they converted to the F-16 Fighting Falcon. During the course of the years I have been tasked to deploy to Arizona, Nevada, Panama, Canada, Kuwait, Turkey, England, Germany, and many other locations. Each deployment brings on a new set of challenges in dealing with people and equipment. I have been very fortunate in our deployments and have not had to endure any of the conditions that our predecessors have had to endure during the previous wars. Being a part of the Air Force I have been pretty much out of harms way during my deployments. I salute the men and women of WWII and the previous wars as to the conditions and battles they fought. Many have paid the ultimate price to retain the freedoms we enjoy in these United States. Although I have traveled far with the guard my duties pale in comparison with the men and women that have fought in the previous wars. I find it hard to imagine some of the conditions these men and women fought in the earlier years. I tip my hat to the men and women of the WWII generation and have profound respect for their service to our country. As the years pass we are continuing to take the war on terrorism to the enemy in different location around the globe. Please join me in saluting the men and women now serving to defend the United States. | ||
| Name: Carl Warnimont | Service: Ohio Army Nat Guard |
When: 1982 to 1988 |
| I enlisted with my to good friends Doug Niese and Howard Hermiller. We were sent to Ft Leonardwood Mo. for our basic training and AIT. We spent 13 weeks in Mo. the training was very tough. We were trained to be combat engineers Doug & Howard specialized in bridge building. I was assigned to Headquarter platoon my job was to drive the Company Commander. I also worked in the communication department. Our yearly training was held at Camp Grayling Mich. The training was 2 weeks long and full of excitement. One of my biggest trills I had was to drive Gen. Tommy Franks of the 101st Airbourne Division. I would like to take time and thank all the men and women that served in our arm forces. Without your sacrifices we as American people would not enjoy the freedoms we have. A special thank you to Lt.Col Mike Miller keep up the great work Mike. | ||
